Government is moving towards boosting the local tourism industry’s resilience.
This is as it has entered a $US20 million loan agreement with the Inter-American Development Bank to finance the National Tourism Programme (NTP).
This programme falls under the purview of the Ministry of Tourism and International Transport.
One of the activities under Component One – New Tourism Products of the NTP pertains to the design of an art gallery and visitor centre at the Old Town Hall Building in Cheapside.
The public is encouraged to participate in a consultation on proposed plans for the building on Friday, May 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The public consultancy will be conducted in an open-house format.
The public will be able to view the preliminary designs, engage with the Ministry’s project team and the designer, and provide feedback on the plans.
It is proposed that on the top floor, a modern art gallery will be located as a satellite of the Barbados National Art Gallery.
Additionally, a modern interactive Visitor Centre will be located on the building’s ground floor.
