Government is hitting back at critics of Barbados’ official recognition of Palestine as a state.
The announcement two weeks ago came amid ongoing fighting between Palestinian group Hamas and Israel.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmonds tells CBC News although the United States does not see Palestine as a state, and last week approved 17 billion dollar in wartime aid for Israel, barbados does not have to follow that country.
Mr. Symmonds spoke after taking in a Japanese cultural performance at the Barbados Museum and Historical Society in St Michael Saturday night.
He stresses the need for a two-state solution to the fighting, sparked when Hamas gunmen launched a deadly attack on Israel on October 7th 2023, because Barbados’ cost of living is being affected by the war.
