Former Senator: Resignation from DLP was only option

August 30, 2024

Former Senator Tricia Watson says resignation from the Democratic Labour Party was her only option, after finding out from the media that she was being replaced in the Senate.

The attorney-at-law was the Leader of Opposition Business in the Upper House.

Ms. Watson says she was initially locked out from DLP headquarters on day three of the annual conference but later gained entry and spoke at the business meeting in relation to Parliamentary business.

According to her, she left at the lunch break with her mother and aunt, with all intentions of returning to hear Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne’s address.

Ms. Watson added that the crowd’s reaction to the announcement contributed to her decision to resign, along with comments made on an online show.

Former longstanding and well known DLP member Irene Sandiford-Garner, as well as Chair of the Women’s League, Stacia Browne, have also resigned from the Party.
