Government’s approach to creating a supportive environment for its ageing population will come under the microscope this weekend.
That’s when the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs and the Barbados Association of Retired Persons (BARP) host a conference at the Hilton Barbados.
Officials say there’s a need for such a comprehensive approach given that Barbadians aged 40 to 59 will form the older demographic in the future.
The conference will focus on aspects such as social inclusion, protection policies, healthcare enhancements, and community engagement.
BARP officials say they adjusted the entry age of members from 50 to 40 in 2021 in anticipation of the future senior population in 2050.
They say the upcoming conference is therefore aimed at preparing BARP members for this demographic shift and is open to individuals aged 40 to 59.
