Environmental issues continue at St. John’s Primary

November 24, 2023

Classes at the St. John’s Primary School were held on the outside today after close to a dozen teachers opted not to enter the rooms.

They have been expressing concern about what they say are environmental issues at the school plant.

President of the Barbados Union of Teachers Rudy Lovell told CBC News the problem, which Government is aware of, has been ongoing for over three decades.

He stresses the teachers are not on strike and are willing to work as long as they can do that in a safe environment.

Mr. Lovell has also expressed concern about the number of sick public buildings in Barbados.

He tells CBC News BUT officials met with representatives from the Ministry of Education at the St. John school.

He says cordial discussions were held to see how the matter can be addressed.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education says it has put measures in place to address the issues identified.
