Barbados as it transitions to clean energy has an ambitious plan to move to net zero by the year 2035.
On this quest to a just energy transition, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office with Responsibility for Culture, Senator Dr. Shantal Munro-Knight says financing is important.
She revealed, however, that due to its size and other factors, Barbados is not able to attract the required funding.
Dr. Munro-Knight was among the panel for a forum titled ‘Small Island Developing States, A Just Energy Transition Towards a Climate Resilient Future’ at the ongoing COP28 in Dubai.
CARICOM Secretary General, Dr. Carla Barnett meanwhile, says despite the reality of new large oil discoveries, renewable energy is a critical component of the bloc’s strategies.
