DLP declines invitation to Advisory Council on Citizen Security

September 21, 2024

The opposition Democratic Labour Party has declined an invitation extended by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley to be a part of the newly set up Advisory Council on Citizen Security.

That Council headed by Professor Velma Newton, is tasked with developing strategies to curb escalating crime. It includes security experts, business leaders, religious leaders, union officials and youth representatives.

Opposition Leader, Ralph Thorne says the decision was taken for several reasons after a meeting of the DLP’s Executive Council. In providing a further explanation, the Spokesperson on Crime, Verla De Peiza says the DLP’s own Commission on Crime is well advanced in its work and will shortly be providing its report.
