Credit union sector records growth

The credit union sector has grown over the last year.

That’s the word from President of the Barbados Co-operative and Credit Union League Limited Kemar Cumberbatch.

Speaking at the annual general meeting at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, Mr. Cumberbatch stated over the year the sector has seen growth in its membership by 2.3%, or about 5000 new members.

He says because of this the sector has also seen growth in the financial numbers.

Mr. Cumberbatch also stated one of the league’s main focuses moving forward is being able to secure deposit insurance.

He says they have been working on this matter for over a decade and will not give up until it is approved.
