The Barbados Police Service is concerned about the number of road fatalities recorded this year.
According to Police Commissioner Richard Boyce, to date, there have been 17 fatalities, compared to 8 for 2022.
He has also spoken out against what he calls the disorder in privately-owned public service vehicles.
In a statement, Mr. Boyce suggested the lack of discipline in this sector is palpable, and a massive inconvenience to the travelling public.
He notes the Police Service has reviewed its strategies in this area and have concluded that greater enforcement on its part is unlikely to be the only solution.
It is therefore making a case for greater oversight by the regulatory agencies responsible for licensing these vehicles.
