Combermere School has recognised the contributions of an outstanding alumni who it sees as one of Barbados’ most illustrious sons in the area of healthcare academia and practice.
The Major Noot Hall now bears a plaque celebrating the late Dr. Kenneth Forde, a man regarded as a colon cancer screening visionary.
It was unveiled in the presence of his family, school officials, the Old Scholars’ Association and the Caribbean College of Surgeons during a ceremony Tuesday evening.
Dr. Forde’s tireless work to bring colon cancer screening resulted in more than 15 million colonoscopies in the United States each year.
He was the only black faculty member at Columbia’s Medical School for his forty-year career and died on June 2, 2019.
Representative of the Caribbean College of Surgeons, Sir Errol Walrond says he copped numerous awards for his research and taught post graduate and nursing students.
