Climate change impacting food supply

November 20, 2023

Barbadians may already be facing the effects of climate change when they go to the supermarket.

This is the word from Director of Research & Economic Analysis at the Central Bank Anton Belgrave.

Speaking at a climate change discussion at Harrison College, Mr. Belgrave stated that our food industry is the most vulnerable sector when it comes to climate change and there are examples of how Barbadians will already be feeling the effects.

Belgrave also stated that while Government is pushing Barbadians to combat some of these costs by growing their own produce, it could take a significant cost to start such a project.

This, however, still will not combat the issue of the rising cost of products in the supermarket.
