Cayman Airways will end its direct flights between Barbados and Grand Cayman on July 3rd this year.

However, in the lead up to the cessation, the service will be initially reduced to once weekly after May 17.

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. made the announcement this afternoon in a press release.

Its Chief Executive Officer Andrea Franklin says the decision follows a comprehensive review of airlift into Barbados for the just-concluded winter season.

She notes both the BTMI and Cayman Airways mutually agreed to terminate the arrangement, following an evaluation of the route’s performance.

Meanwhile, Minister of Tourism and Transport for the Cayman Islands Kenneth Bryan, says the termination of the contract allows both parties to explore new opportunities and strategic destinations.

The release notes Cayman Airways will continue to operate until July 3rd to facilitate increased activity for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

It says passengers with bookings for travel after that date will be contacted by the airline for assistance with rerouting or refunds as needed.

Passengers may also contact Cayman Airways.
