The Speaker of the House of Assembly, His Honour Arthur Holder wants steps taken to improve security for Parliamentarians.
He drew attention to the matter at the opening of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association or C.P.A’s 46th Conference of the Caribbean, the Americas, and the Atlantic Region in Guyana.
Mr. Holder says countries should not have to wait until a Parliamentarian is assassinated, before it takes vital steps to improve security.
The Speaker, who is also the Chairman of the C.P.A also questioned how many parliaments in the Commonwealth want to strengthen vital committees and improve transparency.
Mr. Holder wants Parliaments to be more inclusive and embracing of female Parliamentarians and the disabled.
