The Bussa Emancipation Statue is undergoing routine maintenance.
Confirmation of this from General Manager at the National Conservation Commission, Ryan Als.
In recent weeks, questions have surfaced about what was being done to the sculpture, after workmen erected scaffolding around it.
Speaking to CBC News in a telephone interview, Mr. Als said a team of four artisans had been assigned to clean it.
Mr. Als says the workers on the job have received training in the maintenance of statues.
