The Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA) is warning taxpayers to be on the alert for a new phishing email scam.
In a social media post, the BRA confirmed there have been reports of people receiving a suspicious Refunds Disbursement email, purporting to be from the agency with the subject: “Important TAMIS Information Needed To Complete Your Refund”.
The Revenue Authority says it has not issued any such correspondence.
The BRA notes these types of electronic messages use deceptive tactics to gather sensitive information from people that can be used by identity thieves.
It is therefore urging taxpayers and tax professionals to review all email carefully for authenticity before clicking on any embedded links or attachments.
People who receive requests asking them to share personal information by email, text or through a voice call are asked to report these incidents to privacy@bra.gov.bb.
