June 2, 2024

The Barbados Light and Power Company is working to safely restore electricity to customers still experiencing an outage, following the passage of Hurricane Beryl.

The BL&P is reporting approximately 25% or 35-thousand of its customers were without supply at the start of restoration and as of seven this morning, approximately 3% or 4-thousands-700 customers are still impacted.

In its latest update, the power company says safety briefings have been held with the crews, who have been deployed to address the remaining pockets of outages.

The largest areas still without power are in the Woodbourne, St. Patricks, Fortesque, Inch Marlow and Atlantic Shores, along with other smaller pockets.

In this particular image, a crew is addressing a broken power pole in Woodbourne, St. Philip, just before the entrance to the Barbados National Oil Company Limited.

Despite the outages, the company is reporting its grid performed well during the passage of Beryl.

It said its protective systems operated to isolate impacted areas, to protect the safety of customers, employees and the network.

The Light and Power is asking customers to be patient and understanding during this time.
