With Barbados facing a heatwave more recently and the announcement by health officials of an outbreak of dengue fever, a senior scientist has called attention to the effects of high temperatures on dengue fever.
Director of the Centre for Biosecurity Studies at the University of the West Indies, Dr. Kirk Douglas says the heat impacts the lifecycle of mosquitoes.
Dr. Douglas was among the panel for CBC TV 8’s programme, The People’s Business, as they discussed the topic, “Climate Change, the Heat and You”.
While much is known about the short-term effects of the heat, Deputy Dean of Research and Graduate Studies at UWI, Dr. Michael Campbell says countries are beginning to wrestle with the long-term effects.
