The Barbados based Caribbean Examinations Council, (CXC) is advising vigilance as the Caribbean and world adapt to ChatGPT – an artificial intelligence powered chat tool that changes the way people interact with search engines and the internet.
Created by San Francisco, California-based AI developer, OpenAI, ChatGPT is able to generate human-like responses to prompts in a matter of seconds.
Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Wayne Wesley, notes the new interaction and capability of ChatGPT are quite powerful but have to be harnessed in the right way, given its access to a huge online database of information of varying quality.
He shared his concerns during a webinar held under the theme, “ChatGPT and Education: Classroom Risks and Rewards”.
Dr Wesley however agrees educators need not resist this tool.
