July 4, 2024

Fresh off hosting the world for the T20 World Cup, Barbados is at fever pitch as it gears up for the 50th anniversary of the Crop Over Festival.

The Festival kicks off with the Ceremonial Delivery of the Last Canes and the 50th Anniversary Tent set for Saturday.

The marquee event for Crop Over 2024 is coming to Bridgetown with activities happening in the 3 main squares – Golden Square Freedom Park, Independence Square and National Heroes Square.

The procession will begin from the Pelican Lifestyle Centre at 3:00 p.m. and head towards National Heroes Square, where the official ceremony will take place at 4:00 p.m.

Corporate Communications Specialist at the National Cultural Foundation, Toni Yarde says several Sweet Limes were staged and last Friday saw the hosting of the first Bridgetown Craft Market.

She says there’s excitement about the season ahead.

Ms. Yarde was a guest on CBC TV8’s Mornin’ Barbados, and says the NCF is pleased with changes to this year’s edition of the Crop Over Festival, including the popular Bridgetown Market.
