Barbados says it has examined all of the recommendations put forward about its human rights record during the latest United Nations Universal Periodic (UPR) Review conducted in May.
Permanent representative to the UN Matthew Wilson revealed during the 33rd meeting of the 54th Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC54), that out of the 224 recommendations, the majority enjoyed the support of Barbados.
Ambassador Wilson adds the Universal Periodic Review process has caused the island to look closely at its domestic organisational structure for addressing human rights issues.
It was the fourth review of the island’s human rights record.
Barbados’ first, second and third UPR reviews took place in December 2008, January 2013 and January 2018 respectively.
