Though Barbados has been commended for the decision to remove the mandatory death penalty from its constitution and has been challenged to go a step further.
The issue was highlighted by several speakers during the 54th Regular Session of Human Rights Council (HRC54) including President of Humanist Barbados, Maachelle Farley.
Ms. Farley says discrimination and violence against women in Barbados is a significant cause for concern.
Director of the UN Population Fund’s Sub Regional Office for the Caribbean, Elizabeth Arnold-Talbot has acknowledged strides made by Barbados despite several recent challenges in addressing the human rights of women.
