Barbados’ Cultural Ambassador, Dr. the Most Honourable Anthony ‘The Mighty Gabby’ Carter has impressed on the need for Barbadian and regional artistes to commit to making first class music that can last years.
He believes calypsonians in every Caribbean country and the work that they produce should be valued.
Gabby, while reminiscing on his career and those of artistes of yesteryear, weighed in on the recordings being put out today.
He labelled it “fast food restaurant recordings”.
The Mighty Gabby was the featured speaker for a recent lecture hosted by the Calypso Association and UWI Open Campus Dominica on the role of calypso in Caribbean society.
Gabby adds the calypso artform, which has been taken for granted, has documented the history of the Caribbean time and time again.
He wants radio stations across the region to play more social commentary.
