Aim to have at-risk communities tsunami-ready

September 17, 2024

Barbados is aiming to have all at-risk communities tsunami-ready in the next four years.

This has been revealed by Director of the Department of Emergency Manager, Kerrie Hinds.

She says the National Tsunami Preparedness and Mitigation Programme as been making progress in this regard.

Ms. Hinds was speaking during the handover of tsunami brochures in Braille to the National Disabilities Unit and the Barbados Council for the Disabled.

The move forms part of efforts to ensure members of the disabled community are also aware of tsunami safety rules.

Social Worker with the National Disabilities Unit, Stevenson Evelyn, has welcomed the initiative, as he notes people with disabilities reside in communities considered at risk for tsunami impacts.
