Agencies told stop treating C’bean countries as financial pariahs

October 19, 2023

Barbados has called on international agencies to quit treating Caribbean countries like financial pariahs.

Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley made the plea in response to the recent blacklisting of Belize and Antigua and Barbuda by the European Union Council as non-cooperative jurisdictions for tax purposes.

The EU said that apart from the new additions, the other Caribbean countries included are Anguilla, the Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Ms. Mottley, while addressing a session on “Access to Finance: Global Financial Architecture Reform” at the Canada-CARICOM Summit 2023, warned of the consequences.
