August 12, 2024

Addressing the opening ceremony of the CARICOM IMPACS meeting Attorney General Dale Marshall reported that as of September 2023, there were 292 firearm cases waiting to be tried.

He says the Barbados Police Service’s statistics show between January and June 2023 there were 75 firearm-related offences, and 63 over the same period this year.

According to Mr. Marshall, 142 firearm trials passed through the law courts over the last 18 months.

A group of police officers and other officials are participating in the three-day sensitisation and awareness meetings being hosted by CARICOM IMPACS and the United States Department of State Partners.

Deputy Chief of Mission, US Embassy Bridgetown, Karin Sullivan, says the training will enhance stakeholders collective efforts to combat the trafficking of firearms.
