A top official of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) sees the goal set by CARICOM to reduce the region’s food import bill by 25% by the year 2025 as achievable.
Representative for Barbados, Mr. Allister Glean weighed in on the matter as he participated in a research forum titled CariCrop: Exploring Equitable Design Approaches for Mobile Platforms for Agricultural Development.
It was organised by the University of the West Indies and CIBC FirstCaribbean.
While lauding the initiative Mr. Glean says there are key issues that have to be addressed in order for the Caribbean to reach the target.
Mr. Glean adds that building resilience is also important for original producers.
