After weeks of anxiety among parents and students, this year’s Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination results are back.

As is customary, the Ministry of Education this morning held a press conference, to announce the results.

Education Minister Kay McConney revealed the top girl is from the Providence School and the top boy is from St. Winifreds.

Ms. McConney also announced plans to develop national standards across the education system.

She says the aim is to improve the teaching of Maths, English and other basic subjects in all schools.

The national mean for maths this year is 54.62 compared to 59.2 last year, while for English it is 65.2 this year compared to 69.5 in 2023.

Minister McConney says the performance indicates an important need for the Ministry to look at how children relate to what they are learning.
