T&T: Gunmen launch attack at main hospital

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC -Police are searching for gunmen who launched an attack at the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Ward of the Port of Spain General Hospital (POGH), where a man was being treated for gunshot wounds on Sunday night.

Commissioner of Police Erla Harewood-Christopher and Minister of National Security, Fitzgerald Hinds, visited the hospital following the shooting with Hinds telling reporters that the authorities were gathering all relevant information on the shooting that originally started in Gonzales on the outskirts of the capital.

The attack on the A&E left staff and patients scampering for safety and police police belive that the gunmen were linked to the earlier attack in Gonzales, where three men were discovered suffering from gunshot wounds.

The Trinidad Express newspaper reported Monday that a group of men, said to be dressed in tactical wear resembling that of police uniforms were seen fleeing the scene and that one man died on the scene.

But as the other injured persons were being taken to the hospital, by paramedcs and police, they were apparantly followed by the gunmen who opened fire on reaching the hospital.

One man was reportedly shot in the eye and the suspects fled the area.

The media reports said three people died in the Gonzales shooting, identifying them as  Johnathon Arjoon, Jaydon Reyes, and Kevin King.
