Caribbean countries rattled by tremor

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8 rattled two Caribbean countries early Tuesday morning, but there were no reports of injuries or damage.

The Seismic Research Centre (SRC) of the St. Augustine campus of the University of  the West Indies (UWI), said that the tremor was recorded at 4.57 am (local time) and was located Latitude: 11.13N, Longitude: 61.94W at a depth of 10  kilometers.

The SRC said it was felt 70 m northwest of Port of Spain, 91 km northwest of Arima, east of the capital, and 104 km southwest of St. George’s, the Grenada capital.

Tuesday’s quake is the latest seismic activity to affect the Caribbean in recent days.

It said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 was felt in St. John’s Antigua, Brades in Montserrat and Basseterre in St. Kitts-Nevis, two days ago, while another with a magnitude of 4.0 was felt in Fort-de-France, Martinique, Castries, St. Lucia and Roseau, Dominica three days earlier.
