Kiwis progress to Women’s CWC semis

October 14, 2024

New Zealand Women have booked their spot into the semifinals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

In a must-win final preliminary game today at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, New Zealand Women defeated Pakistan Women to finish second in group ‘A’.

The Kiwis opted to bat first but were kept to 110 for six.

Suzie Bates topscored with 26 while Nashra Sandhu took three for 18.

Pakistan Women, who also had a slight chance of qualifying via net run rate, provided they had scored the 111-run target in 10.4 overs, fell way short as they were bowled out for 56 in 11.4 overs, for New Zealand Women to win by 54 runs.

Amelia Kerr took three for 14 while Player of the Match Eden Carson had two for seven.

New Zealand Women finished the group ‘A’ on six points behind Australia on a perfect eight.

Tomorrow, the other two semifinalists will be determined from group ‘B’.

Both 3rd placed Windies Women and 1st placed England Women must win that final preliminary match in order to be sure of moving forward.

That scenario is more so for the Windies, as defeat will mean they’re out, and England will advance along with South Africa.

If however, the Windies win, then all three teams will be on six points.

The Windies will win the group, and the net run rate will determine the other qualifier.

That Windies-England match begins at 10 a.m. live on MCTV’s ESPN channel 308.
