Barbados fifth in men's field hockey

Barbados finished fifth in the men's field hockey at the 23rd Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla Colombia Sunday.

Playing against the Dominican Republic in the 5th place play-off game, Barbados blanked their opponents five-nil.

First, second and third places went to Cuba, Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago respectively.

Meanwhile in fencing, Martin Jordan defeated El Salvodor's Andres Henriques 5-1, his only win out of six matches in the men's epee individual Pool A.

While in the women's foil individual Pool C, Joy Sue lost all five of her matches.

In track and field, Mario Burke and Burkheart Ellis are into the finals of the men's 100 meters.

Burke placed second in semi-final two with a personal best time of 10.03 seconds, while Ellis clocked 10.10 to finish fourth in semi-final one.

Also through to their finals are Sonia Gaskin and Sade Sealy in the women's 800 meters.

Gaskin finished first in semi-final one in 2 minutes 4.46 seconds while Sealy finished fourth in the second semi in 2 minutes 6.93 seconds.

In the men's 800, Antonio Mascoll is also through to the final, finishing third in semi-final one with a season best time of 1 minute 47.82 seconds.

However, Tia-Adana Belle and Fabian Norgrove missed out on the finals of the women's and men's 400 meter hurdles after finishing 6th and eighth respectively.
