Weekes brings home silver and gold

Luis-Sebastian Weekes earned a gold and a silver medal on the final night of the 31st Central American and Caribbean Swimming Championships in Aruba.

Competing on day 5, Weekes first took silver in the 50 metre freestyle, and blazed home in a new personal best of 23.92 seconds, which also earned him a "b" qualifying standard for the Youth Olympic Games.

The next medal to be added to his treasure chest was another gold in the 100 metre breaststroke in a personal best of one minute 5.62 seconds and another Youth Olympic "b" time.

Barbados placed 7th in the medal count with 24 medals in total. 9 gold, 9 silver and 6 bronze.

Meanwhile, Barbados has named the swim team for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games in Colombia.

Weekes will be joined by Jack Kirby, Nkosi Dunwoody, Alex Sobers and Danielle Titus.
