A specialist in the care of hypertension, high blood pressure and other chronic non communicable diseases says Barbadians have to take greater ownership of their health.
Dr Kenneth Connell, president of the Heart and Stroke Foundation says this includes acquiring some of the critical equipment needed to keep track of the indicators relating to the CNCD's
He says a blood pressure monitor in every household is ideal.
Dr Connell was speaking to CBC as he launched the May measurement month initiative.
It’s part of an international month long effort to measure the blood pressure of 25 million people.
Dr Connell says May 17th is hypertension day and Barbados will focus on hypertension in diabetes.
