Long waits for planning approval may soon be a thing of the past.

Minister in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Investment Marsha Caddle says Barbados is currently way below the regional average in the speed with which planning and construction permits are granted.

As she led off debate in Parliament on a resolution to take note of the green paper on planning law reform, Minister Caddle noted government wants to make the process easier.

She says this will benefit not only foreign investors, but ordinary Barbadians.

Opposition leader Bishop Joseph Atherley says Barbados' development must be about more than economic considerations.

He shared this view during his contribution in Parliament on a resolution to take note of the green paper on planning law reform.

The opposition leader also suggested that approval for investors should be tied to their willingness to fund some of the country's development projects.
