Efforts are on to get all Barbadian students to take part in the recommended amount of physical activity on a daily basis.

The recommended time is one hour.

Director of the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Professor Anne St John says far too many students are being excluded from taking part in physical education.

She is telling parents that overweight and obese children has reached epidemic proportions in Barbados.

Professor St John's comments came at the unveiling of a logo for the Heart and Stroke's Yute Gym.

Professor St John is lobbying for more screening programmes for non-communicable diseases.

The Massy Foundation has assisted the Heart and Stroke Foundation through donations to improve the health and well-being of overweight and obese young people.

Gillian Corbin of the Foundation's advisory committee says they are equally concerned about such national health issues.
