Fewer hurricanes

The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has reduced its forecast for the number of storms and hurricanes during the 2018 Atlantic hurricane season.

The agency is now predicting 9 to 13 named storms, 4 to 7 hurricanes and up to 2 major hurricanes during the entire hurricane season.

In a statement the agency says conditions in the ocean and the atmosphere are conspiring to produce a less active Atlantic hurricane season than initially predicted in May.

Lead seasonal hurricane forecaster, Gary Bell says the season is far from over as there are still more storms to come.
