DEM warns Bajans to be prepared

Despite predictions for a normal 2018 Atlantic hurricane season, the acting director of the Barbados Meteorological Services is urging Barbadians not to become complacent.

Clermont Williams says recently revised international predictions indicate the possibility of thirteen named storms, six hurricanes and two major hurricanes forming.

However, he stresses this is no reason to relax.

The Department of Emergency Management will be rolling out a public education of the national shut down procedure during this hurricane season.

Its director, Kerry Hinds, says this is to ensure there is clarity on the issue.

She was speaking at the Hurricane Awareness Month press conference where she also stressed Barbadians need to prepared this hurricane season

Home affairs Minister Edmund Hinkson says both citizens and the government must ensure there is an adequate food stored should a disaster strike.
