Government is investigating reports that a number of Barbadians have been detained under the new immigration policy implemented by US President Donald Trump.
Prime Minister Freundel Stuart tells CBC the situation has been drawn to his attention.
He was speaking on the sidelines of the 28th inter-sessional meeting of the conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community.
Prime Minister Stuart says the prospect of Caribbean nationals being rounded up and deported was not contemplated.
But he says it's an issue regional leaders may have to address.
Under the recent rules imposed by US President Trump, greater emphasis and resources are geared toward the deportation of illegal immigrants.
Even people who have gained US citizenship are at risk if they have been convicted of certain categories of crimes.
