Local producers now have greater access to the airwaves of the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation.
Deputy Chairman of CBC's board Dr. Sharon Marshall, says there has already been a noticeable increase in the number of locally produced shows aired.
According to Dr. Marshall, this provides an opportunity for talented Barbadians to showcase their creativity.
It also gives Barbadian audiences a chance to see themselves on the small screen, in programmes exploring themes and topics, which are more relevant to them.
Dr. Marshall says as is the case in other Caribbean countries, access to state-owned television has fostered the development of a film industry.
This has the potential to attract international companies.
