Visitor drowns at Fitts Village
05 Oct

A Barbadian who has been living overseas for most of his life, drowned Friday morning at Fitts Village beach in St. James.

People who were in the area at the time of the incident, recalled 70-year-old Victor Dawson shouting for help, as he appeared to get into difficulty.

Unfortunately, efforts to save the Mount Vernon, New York resident were unsuccessful.

Members of his local family gathered at the scene, along with several others, as police carried out their investigations.

CBC News understands Mr. Dawson was accustomed to going to that particular beach whenever he visited Barbados.

He'd been staying with relatives in St. James and was scheduled to leave the island on October 19th.

Mr. Dawson's son, Keith Odle, who lives here, but last saw his father three years ago during his last trip home, was one of the relatives who went on the scene after getting the tragic news.
