The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has denied allegations its members were made to collect data on teachers who were not present at school during last Friday's "rest and reflection" industrial action called by trade unions here.

Police Commissioner Gary Griffith say that the statement by the President of the Trinidad and Tobago Unified Teachers Association, Lynsley Doodai, that police officers collected data on teacher absenteeism on Friday was untrue.

Doodai told reporters that at least 65 to 70 per cent of teachers had stayed away from classes.

This was in support of the call by the Joint Trade Union Movement to protest the decision of the Trinidad and Tobago government to shut down the PETROTRIN refinery.
