Lawmen have thwarted efforts by three men to smuggle illegal drugs into the island via a fishing vessel.
Sixteen polyethylene bags which all contained a quantity of vegetable matter suspected to be cannabis were seized from the vessel intercepted 27 miles off Needhams Point within the territorial waters of the Barbados Economic Zone.
The operation was conducted by Police officers from the Drug Squad assisted by members of the Marine Section as well as members of the Barbados Coast Guard.
Police say the drugs weighed about 300 kilogrammes and is estimated to worth over one-million-two-hundred-thousand dollars.
The men onboard, Christopher Dave Johnson. 36 years of Martindale's Road, St Michael; Malo Anthony Edwards, 35 years of Taylor's Gap, also in Martindale's Road and Colvin Ishmael Brathwaite, 47 years of Brandons Main Road, St Michael were arrested.
They will face the law courts today to face a number of drugs charges.
