School girl drowns

Police are probing an apparent drowning at a popular St. Michael beach.

Confirmation of this from Police Public Relations Officer acting Inspector Rodney Inniss.

Inspector Inniss tells CBC NEWS that 13-year-old Christina Reid of Gemswick, St. Philip reportedly went to the Pier-head Beach on Bay Street with two friends.

Reports are that she got into difficulty while in the water around quarter to two on Wednesday afternoon and as a result had to be rescued.

CBC NEWS understands the teenager was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital by ambulance in an unconscious state however efforts to resuscitate her were unsuccessful.
