The labour movement in Barbados is under tremendous strain and the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations is concerned about the increase in bus fares.

President Edwin O'Neale says he understands the difficulties facing the transport board, but workers especially those at the lower end cannot continue to bear the burden.

He was speaking yesterday during a media conference at the association's garrison headquarters.
General Secretary of CTUSAB Dennis Depeiza says he is concerned with the impact on the delivery of public services following the retrenchment of thousands of government workers.

He says many are now performing several additional functions without adequate compensation.
