Barbados' economy could be dealt a serious blow if the country's agricultural industry isn't protected from the impact of national disasters.

For this reason, a number of stakeholders have come together for the National Animal Disaster Management symposium.

Regional co-ordinator for the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization, Lystra Fletcher-Paul described the symposium as extremely important.

Meanwhile chief executive officer of the Barbados Agricultural Society, James Paul wants more initiatives put in place to help farmers get back on their feet after natural disasters.
