The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry, or BCCI, has a new president.
Following the chamber's 192nd annual general meeting, Mr. Edward Clarke has been elected as the 55th president of the BCCI.
He takes over from Mr. Eddy Abed.
Mr. Edward Clarke is currently the executive vice president and general manager for Barbados operations, at Sagicor Life Incorporated, and has served the BCCI for the past six years.
He most recently performed the role of senior vice president from 2016 to 2018.
The new president has already identified some key areas that will require attention.
They include the revitalization and growth of Barbados' economy; full participation in a revitalised and effective social partnership; for the BCCI to have an oversight role in ensuring that there is strong fiscal management in effect in the public sector; and the provision of support to the government on the ease of doing business in Barbados, among others.
