As Hurricane Maria passes to the north of Barbados, she made her presence felt, as the island has been experiencing heavy showers since late Sunday evening.
The Department of Emergency Management has so far received reports of flooding in Speightstown St Peter, East Coast Road St. Andrew, Colleton St John and Tino Terrace in Christ Church.
The constant rain has forced the closure of all public and private schools, day care centres, as well as the Samuel Jackman Prescod Polytechnic, the Barbados Community College , the Erdiston Teachers Training College and the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus.
The headquarters of the National Union of Public Workers has also been closed.
Barbadians are being urged to remain alert and take all necessary precautions.
