A move by Barbados to extend maternity and paternity leave is being described as a step in the right direction.
President of the Human Resource Management Association of Barbados (HRMAB) Nicholas Roberts, says the island will now be aligning itself with global best practices.
He was speaking to CBC News in the aftermath of comments from Minister of Labour Colin Jordan, where he notes that he will be recommending the introduction of a six-month period for parental leave to Cabinet.
As it relates to concerns about the abuse of the system, the HRMAB official says the respective human resource departments in Barbados are equipped to put measures in place to address that.
