Barbadians Ashlyn Simmons and Layla Haynes made it a sweep in the Girls’ 1500 meters when they took gold in the Under-17 and Under-20 events at the 50th CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas this evening.
Simmons claimed the first track medal of the 2023 Games when she ran her way to a four minute, 51.65-second victory.
Meanwhile, Haynes made a masterful late run to take the Girls’ Under-20 race in a time of four minutes, 53.29 seconds.
Later tonight in the 100 Metre finals, Aniya Nurse is in the Girls’ Under-17 event, Khristel Martindale in the Girls’ Under-20 and Aragorn Straker in the Under-20 Boys’.
CBC TV8 will have those events tape delayed right after the news at 7:30 p.m.
