Another important step has been taken in the effort to introduce healthier meals to school children.
Concessionaires/vendors have been given a list of alternative snacks and beverages as the Ministry of Education continues to roll out its Nutrition Policy.
About 20 of them were invited to a training session conducted by the Ministry at the Barbados Community College.
The training is a collaborative effort with the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Barbados and the Barbados Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition.
Education Officer Hedda Phillips-Boyce acknowledges the canteen operators and vendors will have to change their way of doing business.
She told them competition with fast food restaurants is not going away and they must make their meals tasty and attractive.
